Without fail every year I seem to have a period when I feel divided from my work. May seem like a bad thing, but actually is always enjoyable. For whatever reason I have to step away from taking pictures, and trying to always be in the right place at the right time. I revert back to going to see music because I love it, not because it is work. I free myself from the burden of backpacks full of heavy equipment. I stand out in the crowd, and allow the energy of anticipation and excitement to control the pulsing flow of blood thru my veins. I indulge in the simplicity of being a fan. Dance like no one is watching, and get back to why I fell in love with live music in the first place.
So rather than just not have much to share I will go in to the vaults to offer up a blog entry. Today was a super exciting day for news of Rock 'n Roll. Radiohead will tour the US in 2012, and I for one plan to see at least a couple of their shows. Here is a shot of Thom Yorke from Bonnaroo 2006. What an epic show that was!

I always seem to be apologizing for mismanaging this blog. Once again a big my bad goes out for not posting in a while. I have been working on edits from my friends Matt and Lori's wedding. It was such a wonderful day. Great friends, a beautiful ceremony, and a real sweetheart of a bride. Lori looked beautiful in her dress. Early in the day when we were hanging out and catching up I noticed the dress hanging on the wall between two lovely day lit curtains. I thought it made for a really pretty image. Hope you enjoy a little something different.

Man, things have been jumping around here as of late. A little Telluride Blues and Brews followed by Broken Social Scene, TV on the Radio, Gomez, Dumpstaphunk and the Wood Brothers. Here is a little something extra to make up for disappearing on ya. These are from the first day of Telluride Blues and Brews -

You know before getting the best job in the world working for Cloud 9 onboard Jamcruise, I honestly think I would never have uttered I love January! Now, thanks to the best party in the world it is definitely one of the best months of the year! So excited for number 10-
Magic within every moment. Here Nigel Hall is caught tickling the ivory in the main lobby.

Just got back from a phun adventure. Spent the last week and some change riding bikes all over the state with my boy Dave Myers. We rode a bit in Crested Butte, battled storms at over 11000 feet for a few days outside Telluride at Alta Lakes and threw down on the downhill runs in the rain. Also caught a little bit of the finals at Crankworx Colorado in Winter Park, and rode one last day at Sol Vista. This is Dave railing some berms at the Sol Vista park. Man, I am completely hooked on gravity! As if I need another bike fetish. Oh boy-

Went for a nice bike ride up above Nederland on Sunday. Life really is better the higher up you go. Really can't wait for this weekend when I head back to Crested Butte and on over to Telluride next week. Here is a shot from the Crested Butte area. This is along Washington Gulch heading up to Painter Boy Mine.

Spent the weekend in Crested Butte for the Bluegrass in Paradise Festival. Got lots of great festival stuff, and had a superb time! Had a blast watching people send this step down at the base of the Avery run. Really can't wait for Dave Myers and I's Gravity Tour 2011. Couple days of bombing chairlifts at Crested Butte, couple more days in Telluride, for sure a day at Trestle in Winter Park, watch the finals of Crankworx Colorado and finish strong with a day Sol VIsta-

Well after a real barn burner of a weekend with the extended Panic family at Red Rocks I am completely blissed out. Let's go back to Bonnaroo for our weekly installment. Here is a multiple exposure from the Pretty Lights late night set. Derek kept the tent jumping till like 700 in the morning. Big props to Michael Wientrob for the inspiration with multiple exposures. We have been challenging one another with our craft for many years now. He is the master of the multiple exposure!

Warren Haynes Band blew thru Denver on a two night stand. I didn't make it the first night because I went to see Orgone. I did hear that it was pure HEAT! Second night had moments of greatness. However it just didn't really seem to move me as much as I expected. Don't get me wrong it was a good show, however when you have Warren Haynes, Ron Johnson, Terrance Higgins, Ron Holloway and Nigel Hall all together expectations will run high.

This past week was filed with great music. Orgone at the Fox, Warren Haynes Band at the Ogden, Fox Street Allstars @ Pete's Monkey Bar and Eric Lindell at Moe's BBQ and Bowling. Now that was phun! Here is a shot of Orgone. They crushed the Fox. Can't wait to see these guys on Jamcruise-

Here is a shot from the Pearl Street Music Fest in Boulder. Was thinking that I wasn't going to be able to shoot this after being shot down by the promoter. However a big thank you goes out to the Dr. Dog camp for having me out to shoot. The Dr. Dog set was fabulous, and I had a great time checking a new band to me, Paper Bird.

I always enjoi seeing Umphrey's Mcgee. They have for sure matured into one of the premiere bands on the jamband scene. They always bring extreme talent and creativity to the table. Everytime they play the WAR Memorial in Nashville it ends up being a superb show. Last year Jeff Coffin and Futureman sat in with them for a big chunk of the show. This year opening act Keller Williams joined in. Their lighting guru Jefferson Waful had the cans working the other night. Here are a few shots from back in the crowd.

This past week was a tough one. A great friend's dog was hit by a car and went to be with Woo, and we all know a dog is as good as any man. The blessings of life and love are so fragile and can be ripped away from us in an instance. Life's biggest lover, and a dear friend Brian Lauer also was taken from us. Sometimes a person with that much love to give and laughter to share gets promoted from an earthly ambassador to something much larger than life. He now has the burden of watching over all us and making sure we make it to the show (something he will be so good at. He's been practicing for years).
After his funeral some good friends took the torch and headed for Athens to partake in one of Brian's favorite past times cheering on Widespread Panic. The band was celebrating their 25th Anniversary with two shows where it all began. The Classic Center was built on the spot where the band played their first gig, and is a place they have played some highly coveted shows. These two nights would be no different. The first night the band started the show with the Buffalo Springfield cover "For What its Worth" a song they had not played since 88. Then followed with two personal favorites "Sleepy Monkey" and "Chilly Water." Those three songs were how the band started that first show way back in 1986.
Friday night in Athens was exactly what it needed to be. My friend Gabe celebrated his birthday, everyone I saw wore a huge smile, and Brian's presence was everywhere. After two monstrous sets filled with gems like "No Sugar", "Machine> Barstools", "Nights in White Satin", "Impossible" and " New Speedway Boogie" the first encore could not have been started with anything more fitting than " Don't Be Denied."
Here is a shot that hopefully shows what kind of party it was. Looks exactly how I pictured the band would say farewell to a friend and eternally loving fan. We take you with us everywhere Brian, and we will never be able to show all the love you had, but we will put our best foot forward and know you will still pick up the rest-
