01/04/08 Photo of the Day (Advance)

Patterson Hood just seemed like the perfect candidate for a multiple exposure, because he is so expressive in his music. During the Drive-By Truckers performance at Vandy's Rites of Spring I caught this burst of emotion. I like to think it captures the intensity of Patterson's presence.

I will be traveling all day tomorrow, and know that I might not get photos posted for the next day or so. With that said I am going to go ahead and post a few extra in advance. World Sax Group is one of those shows at N.O. Jazz Festival that you don't plan to be at, but you leave thinking you may have seen one of the best performances of the festival. This took a while to get right. It is individual shots of all four members of the band stacked in camera. Maybe it was pure luck, but I like it!

Multiple exposures are really my favorite spice to my photographic stew. I have a good friend, Micheal Wientrob who is a phenomenal multiple exposure photographer. It is not a new technique, however I think a few people have pushed the envelop in using the tool with live music photography. Michael is certainly one of them, along with greats like Jay Blakesburg and C Taylor Crothers. It is the skill of layering images on top of one another in camera. At times seeming like a mathmatic evaluation of spacing and asthetics, it truly is a gift to be able to master.

Anyway I have learned a great deal from the previously mentioned photographers work, and yet feel that in no way do we have the same style. I have a great deal of ground to cover to have accomplished what those guys have done, and can't wait to get there.

Speaking of getting there, let's get back to the point- SOULIVE!
This is a multiple exposure of the Evans brothers funking it up at Exit In here in the Music City.

01/01/08 Photo of the Day

Happy New Year!!! I hope that everyone had a nice NYE. I am looking forward to a great year in 2008. Continuing with the multiple exposure theme, here is a photo from the Widespread Panic run this fall at the Ryman Auditorium. I took the photo on the 3rd night, and I think it really captures the ghostly feeling of a greater presence in the historic venue. Enjoy-

12/31/2007 Photo of the Day

Ladies and gentlemen.... The insanely talented Donald Harrison. This is a multiple exposure of the masterful jazz man from N.O. Jazz and Heritage Festival earlier this year. Happy NYE to everyone.

If you are in Nashville go see Old Union at the Belcourt!

This is a multiple exposure of the iconic bluesman Taj Mahal. The photo was taken earlier this year at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival. Taj is such an amazing musician, and fine showman. It is always a treat to witness him perform.

12/29/2007 Photo of the Day

The Tennessee Titans took a victory lap last year after their unexpected win over the Indianapolis Colts. They almost beat them again earlier this season here in Nashville, and will hopefully be celebrating in the RCA dome on Sunday night.

We are coming for you Colts! Only one more day until the Titans square off with the Indianapolis Colts for a chance to go to the playoffs. It will be a tough game for the Titans to win in the RCA dome, but hopefully we will be up to the challenge.

I missed getting this up technically on the 27th. In honor of Vince Young's University of Texas winning their bowl game, here is VY making it work against the Colts earlier this year. The Colts being the team the Titans have to go thru this weekend to make the playoffs.

Photo of the Day 12/26/2007

NY Jets QB Chad Pennington came home to Tennessee, and narrowly avoided the grasp of Albert Haynesworth on this play. He was sacked 6 times by the swarming TN defense. Hopefully they will be ready again this weekend for the Colts.
